3 Peaks Extreme
At last 3 Peaks Challenge is behind me. Give me a few months and I’ll be able to walk again. Seriously, it wasn’t quite as torturous as I thought it was going to be. Not quite, but close!
I’ve got to admit that last week I was far from certain I’d be saying these three words to you now, but, well – ‘I did it’!
Actually it’s fairer to say we did it, because I know for a fact that I could not have got through the whole thing if it hadn’t been for the support of all the other guys around me and our support team.
Help! John O’Conner steps up to another Perennial challenge!
John O’Conner has entered two teams to take part in an activity-based challenge to raise money for Perennial (formerly ‘The Gardeners Royal Benevolent Society’).
This challenge will see me and my fellow team members walking or running the equivalent of 7 marathons over a period of six weeks! The challenge is to do 10,000 steps every day – the equivalent of running, walking cycling or swimming an additional 45-60 minutes of activity each day for this period. The good news is that with every training session I complete, I am becoming more and more confident that I will survive!
Three Peaks Extreme: Should I join the ‘fools on the hills’ or not?
You may recall that back in 2010 I joined the pillocks on the hillocks (or was it the fools on the hills?) to raise £10,000 for the charity Greenfingers.
Well, guess what? Brian Herbert of the landscape company Outdoor Options (in association with BALI) is getting the team back together to do it all again this coming September, this time to support the charity Perennial which supports people working in – or retired from – the horticulture industry. And you guessed it, they’ve invited me to get involved again.
