Hampshire Investors in Young People Award
JOC are supporting Hampshire Futures
Our Contract Manager, Alan Stevens and his team have been working in partnership with Hampshire County Council to provide work experience for one of their interns. The intern, Ben, started his work experience in November 2018 and will complete his placement next month. He spends two days per week, Thursday and Friday, with Alan and his team.
So far during his placement scheme, Ben has mainly been working with our sports marking operative, Alan Reeves, teaching him how to correctly mark football, rugby and rounders pitches, athletics tracks and training grids. In addition, they attend and complete pitch renovations, soil and seeding.
Since November, Ben has developed many new skills including using machinery, blower, marking machine, measuring the required lines, learning how to achieve the correct right angles from scratch and marking out the final lines. Ben not only has developed practical skills, but also essential workplace environment experience and has established interactive relationships with other staff.
Alan Stevens, Contract Manager comments: “Since Ben has been with us, I have noticed a change in him. He’s now confident to talk to the other staff and will carry a conversation with any of them, whereas before he was a bit shy. He is a friendly person and always polite and it’s clear wants to achieve.”
Since starting his work experience, Ben comments “I feel that I have found a good work ethic and have built good friendships with other team members. At first it was an adjustment to my daily routine, but I now look forward to my two days a week with the JOC team!”
