Really pleased to see that apprenticeships are back on the political agenda and gaining widespread news coverage. Labour are stating that if elected they will guarantee apprenticeship places for every school leaver that ‘gets the grade’ by 2020. The conservative response from Rt Hon Grant Shapps was to state that under the current government apprenticeships have doubled and if re-elected they will put three million people into apprentice places. So the clear winner is the apprenticeship programme, it will continue to get government support and has good will from both sides of the political spectrum.

At John O’Conner we will continue to invest in our apprenticeship programme and skills training. As a family company we nurture and develop our staff, providing excellent progression opportunities.

We are passionate about training and development and are proud to have our Apprenticeship Programme recognised by awards such as British Institute of Landscape Industries (BALI) Employer of the Year 2013, Highly Commended Newcomer of the Year 2013 by The National Apprenticeships Service and Finalist for the Hertfordshire Business Awards 2014 for Supporting Young People.

So we firmly believe the ‘grow your own’ approach is integral to our business and are committed to offer excellent progression opportunities for our apprentices. Which is why I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to showcase our  business and one of our apprentices at the House of Commons on March 10 as part of  Made by Apprentices event. It will be a chance to discuss the value of our scheme first hand with ministers.
