Our Summer of Summers
Well, summer 2012 is just about over and I don’t think many of us will forget it in a hurry!
The wettest drought on record followed by wettest summer for 100 years presented many challenges for our staff, on a daily basis, but true to form, they responded in gritty, down-to-earth John O’Conner style and came through it all with flying colours.
Despite serious difficulties with bizarre weather patterns, there have been celebrations on our contracts through the whole summer.
Once again, I’m delighted with the number of customers that we have helped to gain and retain coveted green flags for our lovely parks and open spaces this year. This provides recognition for all the hard work and perserverance of our teams.
And along with all the usual duties of park and open space management, we have also helped prepare for Jubilee parties, Royal Visits, Olympic Torch relays and Olympic celebrations – fantastic!
In so many ways, it’s been a ‘summer of summers’. Behind the scenes, our teams have been working with customers to ensure all the green spaces have looked at their absolute best.
And it has been just so pleasing to hear about and witness at first hand the way so many people joined in the celebrations with such enthusiasm. It really has placed our green spaces in the spotlight and encouraged even more people to make use of such a valuable resource.
Finally, a big thank you and congratulations to all our Olympians, Paralympians and Games Makers. They whole show has been simply spectacular. Well done then, team GB.
And equally well done, team JOC!
Till next time,
